GLUSBURN will host its first Hillbilly Honkytonk festival this summer.

“It’s a country thang,” proclaim organisers of the live music spectacular at Manor House Farm on August 13.

Glusburn woman Liz Nelson said: “My husband and I have organised a good old-fashioned country music shindig, with five live acts, food available, a bar, bucking bronco and selection of vintage boots for sale!”

Headline performers include The Ginjammers, the Dolly Parton Story and the Henry Smith Band, with local outfits Howlin’ Johnny And The Devils Rejects and Dale Country Ceilidh Band also performing.

Howlin' Johnny And The Devils’ Rejects, one of Keighley's wildest bands, will play their skiffle, ‘hellbilly’ and country rock 'n' roll music.

The Reverend Howlin' Johnny has had numerous aliases over the past three decades while fronting top local bands like Johnny And The Poorboys.

The ukulele-playing Johnny is joined by former Poorboys guitarist Nick Proctor on banjo, ex Big Fish and Skeletal Family bassist Johnny Lorrimer on bass, and former Urban Blues man Gareth Rice on washboard and percussion.

Organisers also said The Ginjammers, Pete and Hazel Rowlands, are a “definite crowd pleaser” who can be found playing various country, blues and folk festivals as well as local venues.

The venue is Manor House Farm, Lothersdale Road, the opening time is midday, and there will also be beer, bucking bronco, live music and fodder.

Tickets cost £20 from GE Thorntons, Main Street, Cross Hills, the Hare and Hounds pub in Lothersdale, or by calling 07984 521605. Children go free.
