SUTTON’s theatre company has a busy September with a play, pantomime and youth theatre sessions on the horizon.

The Green Hut Theatre Company will present its stage version of popular TV sitcom The Vicar Of Dibley in Sutton Village Hall tomorrow and Saturday.

Next week the group will begin work on its December pantomime Cinderella with chorus rehearsals for children and adults starting on Friday.

The Green Hut Youth Theatre will begin its autumn season of fortnightly drama sessions on Tuesday with all children aged eight-plus welcome.

The Sutton group, which celebrates its 90th birthday in two years, has previously staged several TV sitcom adaptations including ‘Allo ‘Allo and Are You Being Served.

This year it’s the turn of The Vicar Of Dibley, the hit comedy from the 1990s that featured Dawn French as a sleepy village’s first woman minister.

Four episodes have been brought to the stage, taking audiences from the frosty reception for Rev Geraldine’s to her romance with the parish council chairman’s brother.

Along the way there’s comic chaos as Gerry holds a special service for animals and presides over the wacky wedding of local oddballs Hugo and Alice.

Sutton Green Hut Youth Theatre was set up four years ago to give children from Sutton’s autumn pantomime something to do through the spring and summer months while adult members worked on the annual musical and stage play.

The drama club, originally known as the Laffia, has grown into a thriving youth group focusing on theatre skills, teamwork and personal development through drama games and improvisation.

The Youth Theatre starts its autumn programme on Tuesday, September 13, and would welcome children and young people from South Craven villages and as far afield as Keighley and Skipton.

Many of the Youth Theatre members will be back at the Green Hut on Friday September 16 to begin rehearsals for the pantomime Cinderella, which will be performed in Sutton Village Hall on December 7 to 10.
