GIGGLESWICK School Chapel is showcasing a summer of music featuring a range of musical styles and performances.

The first of two organ recitals featuring the chapel’s famous Father Willis Organ was held last week when Henry Wallace, organist and choirmaster at Greyfriars Kirk in Edinburgh, played a range of music from Bach to Stanford and Howells last Thursday.

The next organist concert, which will take place at 6.30pm on Saturday, June 30, will feature Phillip Broadhouse performing an eclectic mix of music dating from the last three centuries right through to the present day.

Phillip is the resident organist at Giggleswick School as well as organist at the Oratory Church of St Chad in Manchester.

Margie Simper, director of music at Giggleswick School, said: ‘Our chapel is such an inspiring place to make music. It is privilege to be able to share it with some outstanding performers and the wider community. I could not think of a better place to enjoy music on a summer’s evening.”

Later this month, the Swan Singers will make the long journey north from Wells in Somerset to perform in the chapel at 7.30pm on Wednesday, May 30.

Led by former Langcliffe Singers musical director; Tricia Rees-Jones, the Swan Singers are celebrating English Choral Music.

“Since moving south, I have been wanting to bring the singers up to Giggleswick to sing in the fantastic chapel with its outstanding acoustics,” said Mrs Rees-Jones.

The concert will feature a repertoire of English choral music including works by Finzi, Purcell and Thomas Tallis.

The Swan Singers will also be accompanied by Julian McNamara, former Organ Studies tutor at the Royal Northern College of Music.

The Lancaster Singers cross back over into Yorkshire under the direction of Duncan Lloyd.

Their Heroes and Villains concert in the chapel, which will be held at 7.30pm on Saturday, June 9, will feature an exciting mix of choral arrangements with music from Handle and Verdi to Bernstein, Whitacre, the Beach Boys and Billy Joel.

Mr Lloyd said: “I am delighted that we are returning to Giggleswick to perform once again. As Lancastrians in Yorkshire we were made to feel very welcome two years ago and it is a superb venue to be performing in. This concert will feature of an enjoyable mix of both well-known and lesser known musical works.”
