SKIPTON Choral Society is currently recruiting tenors and basses to improve the musical balance of the choir.

The choir has 72 members: 25 sopranos, 24 altos, 15 basses, but only seven tenors.

Musical director Robert Webb said: “It’s important to have the right mix of voices to produce a blended sound, but with such a small minority of men, it can be difficult to get the sound well-balanced.”

Membership secretary Liz Graham added: “We’re a friendly, non-auditioning choir, and we need more men to come and sing with us, so we’re making a special appeal to men: Come and join us, even if you’ve not sung before. No previous experience necessary - a willingness to learn and a joy of singing is all you need. Tenors especially welcome – and that includes women who sing tenor.”

The choir’s new season starts in September, but anyone interested can join rehearsals at 7pm on Mondays in Holy Trinity Church or contact Liz on membership@skiptonchoralsociety.com
