SKIPTON Choral Society will perform pieces on a coronation theme for their final concert this season at 7.30pm on Saturday, July 14, at Christ Church in Skipton.

The centrepiece of the concert will be Mozart’s Mass No. 15 in C major, K317, composed in 1779.

Other pieces in this concert include Finzi’s God is Gone Up, Balfour Gardiner’s Evening Hymn, Stanford’s Magnificat and Nunc dimittis in C, Vaughan Williams’s O Clap Your Hands.

This joyful celebration stands in sharp contrast to the choir’s performance of The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins in their first concert of the season last November. It also illustrates their intention to perform a wide range of styles, from folk to classical to modern.

This concert marks the end of Robert Webb’s first year as musical director, during which he identified an important step for the choir to take before next season.

He said: “We’re very lucky to have a lot of talented sopranos and altos, and we have talented tenors and basses; but we just don’t have quite as many as we would like. In particular, we need more tenors.”

Tickets which cost £10 or £5 for under 16s, are available from 07716 219312, tickets@skiptonchoralsociety.com or on the door.
