Swing Zazou,

Grassington Festival Hall

WHAT do you get if you mix flamingos, a fiddle, sequins, shiny gold boots and electric keyboards with drum and bass? Swing Zazou performing on the opening night of the Grassington Festival!

Brighton-based Swing Zazou served up the unique sound of live electric swing in an up-tempo and playful but polished act that was a visual, as well as musical, delight.

This seven-piece band clearly enjoyed performing their delicious concoction of 1930’s big band and dancehall classics. Swing Zazou played a range of tempos and styles from Skeleton in The Closet (swing horror) to a solo soulful fiddler’s gypsy serenade.

They roused dancers to their feet with numbers by Louis Armstrong, Slim Gaillard and Duke Ellington, as well as old jazz favourites Sing Sing Sing, Restless and Diga Diga Do.

The hall was filled with simultaneous sing-a-long and swing as Hi De Ho pelted out. The set was topped off with a Swing Zazou original, Crazy Lurgy.
