Cantores and Camerata Salicium memorial concert,

Giggleswick School Chapel

CANTORES Salicium with Camerata Salicium, under the direction of Lindy Williams, performed a concert in Giggleswick School Chapel dedicated to former member Phil Andrew who tragically died in a car crash in December.

The concert was based around pieces by some of Phil’s favourite composers.

The first half of the programme included two pieces by Thomas Tallis, the charming If Ye Love Me and In Ieiunio Et Fletu and the richly expressive Ave Verum Corpus. Further pieces by Purcell and Victoria were superbly sung. Special credit goes to soloists in Handel’s De Torrente, Jo Wulf and Charlotte Treglown, whose voices sounded splendid.

After a short break, Camerata Salicium gave us Telemann’s impressive Sonata in E Minor featuring Ben Buckner on bassoon.

Haydn’s Missa Brevis Sancti Johannes de Deo: Kleine Orgelmesse followed, performed with great aplomb by the choir and ably accompanied by the Camerata; Jo Wulf again delivered a delightful solo in the Benedictus. JS Bach’s final chorus from Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring completed this charming concert.

A very well balanced programme featuring lovely music in exquisite surroundings provided a fitting tribute to the contribution Phil had made to Cantores Salicium.
