SETTLE-based singing group Octameron has been invited to sing at the inaugural Clitheroe Festival of Choirs.

The festival, an event showcasing vocal groups from all over the Ribble Valley and beyond, is hosted by The Grand Choir and will take place over three days, with over 20 choirs taking part at nine different venues in Clitheroe and surrounding villages.

Octameron will open the festival this Friday at The Grand, Clitheroe, performing in the first half of the concert, with The Grand Choir singing in the second half. The programme will be classic Octameron fare, a mix of folk songs, swing, jazz and classical, from Hoagy Carmichael to The Carpenters.

The concert starts at 7.30pm, doors open at 7pm. Tickets, priced at £7.50 and £5 concessions, are available on 01200 421599 or through The Grand website at grandvenue.co.uk

The following weekend, on Saturday, July 21, Octameron will return to their own doorstep when they will perform a concert in Rathmell Reading Room, just down the road from their rehearsal ‘base’ at Cappleside.

This will be a full-length concert and again, the programme will include a wide variety of styles.

Tickets, which will include strawberries and cream and a glass of Prosecco, cost £8 and can be reserved by calling 01729 840397, 01729 840428 or 01729 840507.

Proceeds will go the Reading Room funds.
