THE North’s only training orchestra, Vacation Chamber Orchestra (VaCO), will welcome the cream of the crop from across the UK’s leading schools, conservatoires and universities for its summer residential course in August.

VaCO was set up to provide development opportunities for talented musicians giving them experience to play together and to promote high-quality orchestral and chamber concerts in rural North Yorkshire.

Orchestral manager Jane Lomax said: “The towns and villages in the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors have hosted 457 concerts throughout our 25 years, welcoming the young musicians and offering concert venues. The hospitality is as warm as the welcome and as large as the audiences that come to hear fine chamber music.”

One of these concerts will be held at 7.30pm on Thursday, August 23, in Grassington Town Hall. Tickets are available at vaco.net, from Jane Lomax on 07974 698264 or on the door from 7pm.

VaCO will also perform a summer lunchtime concert at the Airton Friends Meeting House at 1.30pm on Sunday, August 26.

Entrance is free with donations collected to be divided between VaCO and Airton Friends Meeting’s piano fundraising appeal.

Tea, coffee and soft drinks will be available from 12.30pm and concertgoers are invited to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy in the grounds before the recital.
