Artist donates proceeds from painting to Craven gallery

Broughton artist Kitty North has donated the proceeds of one of her paintings to Skipton’s Craven Museum and Art Gallery.

Kitty is currently exhibiting at the gallery’s Contemporary Craven Christmas exhibition and her 5ft by 6ft oil painting on linen of Bolton Abbey was sold on the preview night.

Now Kitty has donated the entire proceeds, £4,500, to the museum and gallery, based in Skipton Town Hall.

“Craven Museum and Gallery has done fantastic work with schools and the college to promote the arts, heritage and culture in the community,” said Kitty.

“It showcases much more than just art, but includes all facets of Yorkshire life including farming, business and tourism.

“I wanted to show my support and highlight the importance of Craven Museum and Gallery and the people involved who tirelessly work away.

“I hope that my contribution will help towards future expansion and development plans and that other people will also express their appreciation of the work that Craven Museum and Gallery does and will donate to the museum.”

Kitty created her painting from sketches made during her 800 or so visits to Bolton Abbey.

“Many people of all ages visit Bolton Abbey and leave with their own experiences. It has been recorded by many artists, including Girtin, Turner and Landseer. I am lucky enough to do what most people do on their days off,” she said.

Kitty uses the scale of her pictures to illustrate the small size of people versus the large landscape.

She sells her work from Yorkshire galleries and in London and Australia and has a number of pieces in the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire’s collection, among many others.

The Contemporary Christmas exhibition runs until Monday and features the work of 45 professional artists. All works are for sale and admission is free.
