Ballet-inspired art launches new gallery

A new art gallery in Grassington is launching with an exhibition of contemporary work by American artist Lisa Hinds, who now lives in Addingham.

The gallery is a new venture by publisher, writer and prizewinning photographer John White, from Low Mills Cottages, Grassington.

And he has chosen “The Rites of Spring” for the debut exhibition.

“Lisa’s pieces are informed by her past as a ballet dancer. The pictures are a mixed media montage on print with paint.

“They are really different and bring a breath of fresh spring air after a long, hard winter,” said Mr White. Fractal Press Gallery, based in Wood Lane, serves as a workplace for Mr White’s printing and photograph restoration service, as well as a gallery for local artists including Terry and Lynda Logan, Helen Wheatley and Jan Richardson.

The building has been divided to create space for two businesses – Mr White’s gallery and a bicycle shop.

Mr White is the author of two walking books, Grassington to East Coast Walk and Grassington to West Coast Walk, which are on sale in the gallery alongside greetings cards featuring artists’ work.

The exhibition of Miss Hinds’ work opens next Saturday, March 6, and runs for 15 days.
