A community jazz ensemble is looking to expand its junior section.
The Ribblesdale Area Musicians’ Jam Jazz project RAMjam – a young person’s version of the established Dales Jam – is a developing ensemble of musicians which began in 2008.
The project is seeking musicians of all abilities, from 10 to 20-year-olds, who enjoy playing music and meeting new people.
It will culminate in a performance at the Victoria Hall, Settle, on Saturday March 27.
RAMjam is the brainchild of musical director Richard Ormrod. who delivers a series of workshops and rehearsals aimed at teaching the young participants about the dynamics of playing as an ensemble as well as improvisation, group composition and arranging.
Since 2008, more than 20 young people have taken part in the project and have performed to two full houses at the Victoria Hall.
Participants must provide their own instrument, but don't have to play to any particular standard.
A major success for the project has been that several members of RAMJam are now playing regularly with Dales Jam and former young members are composing and arranging pieces for the adult group and their peers.
“RAMjam is a very exciting opportunity for young musicians of any level of ability, to play music together in Craven,” said Mr Ormrod. “This is the third RAMjam project – each year it has been more successful, with more participants, more music, more fun.”
The young musicians meet at the Victoria Hall between 4.30pm and 7pm on Tuesdays. The cost to join RAMjam is £20, but sessions are then free. For more information, email rinkadon@yahoo.co.uk
