Skipton musicians, young and old, are staging a family concert celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s accession to the throne.
The Poppy Lollipops concert will be held at Holy Trinity Church next Sunday, February 5 – the eve of the accession.
Skipton Royal British Legion Band will join young musicians, including pupils from Skipton Girls’ High School, for an afternoon of popular music. As well as soloists, band and choir items, there’ll be plenty of old favourites in a community sing-song.

* Singer-songwriter Vin Garbutt will open the new season at the Mart Theatre next Saturday, February 4.

* Tribute band Beatles for Sale will perform at a charity concert at the Black Horse on Saturday.
As well as hits from the Fab Four, the Back to the Sixties concert will include music from other supergroups of the decade, including The Hollies, Gerry and the Pacemakers and the Searchers.
The gig, which starts at 8pm, will raise money for Help for Heroes and tickets, costing £8, are available from (01756) 792145 or 720646.
* The next Soul-in-Skipton night will be at the LMS Club, on Broughton Road, on Saturday, from 8pm to 1am.
Admission is £3 on the door.
* “Contemporary Ceramics: A Personal Collection” is the new exhibition at Craven Museum and Gallery, in the town hall. It features 20th century studio ceramics loaned by a private collector.
There is also an exhibition of work by three internationally known Yorkshire ceramicists – David Roberts, Jim Robison and Cross Hills-based Anna Lambert.
* Jane Gardener will talk about the Golden Age of Venetian glass to Skipton and Wharfedale Decorative and Fine Arts Society.
The talk takes place at Skipton Town Hall next Thursday, February 2 at 7pm. Admission is free for members and £6 for guests.
* Skipton and District Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society has organised a musical theatre workshop.
It will focus on Les Miserables and will be held at St John’s Ambulance Hall, Skipton, from Friday, February 10, to Sunday, February 12. It will be led by Andy Reiss, who was cast in the first UK production of Les Miserables outside of the West End and was resident director for its first national tour.

The Gallery on the Green is exhibiting a collection of old masters from the Louvre.
While the works of art are all postcards, visitors can see a good selection of familiar paintings by Turner, Canaletto, Manet and others.

* Settle Stories is holding an open meeting to get ideas on how the town’s Storytelling Festival can be improved. The meeting will take place at The Lion tonight (Thursday) from 7.30pm to 9pm.
Littondale’s Got Talent Show returns to Amerdale Hall next Saturday, February 4 at 7.30pm.
There will be new acts to enjoy and all funds raised will go towards the upkeep of the community hall.

The next Big Soul Night at Rolls-Royce Leisure Centre takes place tomorrow (Friday).
It will run from 8pm to 1pm and admission is £5 on the door.
St Joseph’s Community Centre will also host a soul night next Saturday, February 4. Called Soul @ St Jo’s, the event will feature 60s soul and Northern and Tamla motown music.
It will run from 7.30pm to midnight and admission is £3 on the door.
The Richard Whiteley Theatre continues its community cinema events with a screening of family film, Alvin and the Chipmunks 3, next Sunday, February 5, at 3.30pm.

Pupils at Silsden’s Elizabeth Phillips School of Dance will be treading the boards this weekend. They will perform Strictly Showtime at Glusburn Community and Arts Centre tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday at 7pm.
The first half of the show tells the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Youngsters from the age of three will take part, with Louise Spilman playing Snow White, Charlotte Darley, her cruel stepmother and Beverley Chapman the Spirit of the Mirror.
The second half of the production is called Dancing the Blues and features blues music and music about the colour blue.

Grassington Hub has organised a movie night at the Octagon Theatre on Saturday.
The featured films will be Alvin and The Chipmunks – the Squeakuel at 5pm and Black Swan at 7.30pm. Refreshments and popcorn will be on sale.
Admission, per film, is £4 for adults, £2 for children and £10 for families (maximum of four children). Tickets are available at the Hub, on Garrs Lane, or on the door.
