Skipton’s Rock Up and Sing choir is approaching its second birthday and continues to go from strength to strength.
Musical director Rhiannon Gayle set up her first Rock Up and Sing choir in Harrogate three years ago and launched the Skipton offshoot a year later. The Skipton singers gave their first sell-out performance at East Riddlesden Hall last March to raise money for Grant Our Mummy’s Wish, and took part in a massed choir concert, Simply Rock Up and Sing, at the Yorkshire Event Centre, Harrogate, in June.
The highlight of 2011 was recording their first CD at the famous Abbey Road Studios in London.
“I can hardly believe how far we’ve come in such a short time,” said Rhiannon. “The journey has been a bit of a rollercoaster at times, but we’re all loving the ride.”
For 2012, Rhiannon is piloting a new eight-week youth choir in Harrogate, and there will be another massed choir concert in Harrogate in July.
Skipton Rock Up and Sing members meet at the Black Horse, on Skipton High Street, on Mondays at 7.30pm. Taster sessions cost £2.50. For details, visit rockupandsing. com or phone (01423) 508500.
