2:12pm Thursday 14th June 2012 in Leisure
To celebrate the Queen’s diamond jubilee and prepare for the London Olympics, Settle Orchestra’s summer concerts include a musical tour of Great Britain and Ireland.
The programme includes William Walton’s Crown Imperial, Ernest Tomlinson’s 2nd Suite of English Folk Dances, Peter Hope’s Ring of Kerry, Grace Williams’ Fantasia on Welsh Nursery Tunes and Hamish MacCunn’s Land of the Mountain and the Flood.
There is music from further afield with Vivaldi’s Concerto for two trumpets and strings and Alexander Arutiunian’s Trumpet Concerto.
The soloist is former orchestra member Adam Stockbridge, who is a student at the Royal College of Music. In the Vivaldi concerto he will be joined by Pam Whitehead, the orchestra’s principal trumpet player.
The concert will be staged at Settle Parish Church on Saturday and Christ Church, Skipton, next Saturday, June 23, at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from Settle Music, Cave and Crag (Settle), Bentham Post Office, Clitheroe Music, Skipton Camera Centre, Alley Books (Skipton) or on the door.
