The cast of One Big Blow
Miners, brass bands, theatre – and what have you got? Not the film Brassed Off, but rather the musical One Big Blow, which was written by John Burrows in 1980, 16 years before the hit movie.
The show will be performed at the Mart Theatre, Skipton, next Saturday, June 23.
Described as a social history, the show highlights working conditions underground, black lung disease and a need to get to the brass band contest which, in this case, is in Blackpool.
A cast of six plays all the parts and sings all the songs a capella and even recreates the brass band using their voices. Indeed, the original cast became The Flying Pickets who had the 1983 Christmas No 1 with Only You.
This particular production was premiered at The Hyde Festival Theatre and has included three performances at the Welsh coal mining museum The Big Pit in Cwmbran.
The show starts at 7.30pm and tickets cost £7.50 for adults and £6 for concessions. Call the box office on (01756) 706460 or visit themarttheatre.org.uk
