Skipton: Skipton Amateur Operatic Society takes to the town hall stage next week with Cole Porter’s “Anything Goes”. This fast-moving comedy musical takes place in the 1930s on a trans-Atlantic liner and tells the story of Billy Crocker (David Nicholson), a stowaway on board the SS American who is hoping to win the heart of Hope (Beth Welch). She is sailing to England to marry fiancé Evelyn (Mark Rundle). Billy is helped along the way by nightclub singer Reno Sweeney (Kathryn Tonks), the infamous Moonface Martin (Neil Hellewell) and his “friend” Erma (Christa D’Apolito). With chorus girls, reprobate clergymen and gangsters running amok, it promises to be a night of romance and corny gags with catchy, familiar songs such as “Anything Goes”, “It’s De-Lovely” and “I get a kick out of you”. The show opens on Tuesday and runs until Saturday October 11. Tickets cost £8 (£6 for concessions) and are available from 01756 700718 (daytime) and 01756 799600 (evenings).
