Settle Amateur Operatic Society is embracing the prohibition era.

Both the junior and senior society shows are set at the time of prohibition.

The junior show is Bugsy Malone and will be performed at Settle’s Victoria Hall next Saturday, April 6, at 6pm.

The cast – made up of under 18s – has already won fans among the older members of the society who are involved in the production.

Producer/director Pat Harding said: “We are so impressed with this group of young people. They are giving a great deal of time and effort to this show.”

And musical director Pam Whitehead agreed.

“You hear so much about adolescents spending all their time on computers these days but these youngsters are attending every rehearsal we call,” she said.

“They range in age from eight to 18 and all work together really well. It is a delight for Pat and I to work with them.”

The senior society has chosen Guys and Dolls as its October performance and a workshop, held earlier this month, to introduce the show to members was well attended.

Meanwhile the society’s annual get-together will take place at the Old Courthouse on Wednesday, May 7, at 7.30pm and everyone is welcome to attend.
