SKIPTON: Skipton Little Theatre is to present a dramatised reading of Sonia Waterfall’s book Escape to Auschwitz.

It tells the tragic tale of her mother Ilse’s escape from Nazi-occupied Austria to the UK, the death of her Jewish great-grandmother Gisela in a concentration camp in Riga, Latvia, and the death of her grandmother, Hulda, either on route to Auschwitz or in the notorious concentration camp.

The book was inspired by a secret cache of letters kept by Ilse - known locally as Frankie.

Sonia will sign copies of the book at WH Smith in Sheep Street, Skipton today from 5pm to 6.30pm and an hour-long dramatisation of the story will be staged at Skipton Little Theatre tomorrow and Saturday at 7.30pm. Entry is free, but donations to the Red Cross would be welcomed.

lSkipton Fake Festival will be staged on Saturday, with tributes to Coldplay, Muse and Kings of Leon.

Taking part will be Coldplace, Musest and Kings of Leon alongside local bands Rosie, Acoustic TV, Kath and the Kicks, Down Reno and Revolt.

Advance tickets are priced at £20 for adults, £10 for ten to 17 years old and £50 for a family ticket,. Under nines are free.

lSkipton, Craven Museum and Gallery is hosting its summer exhibition, Bikes, Legs, Action!

It is designed to highlight the ins and outs of cycling. Visitors can view the helmet of 2012 Tour de France winner Sir Bradley Wiggins, inspect Team Sky Rapha equipment and find out about tactics and nutrition of cyclists.

The exhibition runs until September 20.

lTo celebrate the Tour de France, the town’s Mill Bridge Gallery is hosting an exhibition of photographs and sculptural work celebrating both the sport and the beautiful Dales countryside.

The exhibition will run throughout July.

lSkipton Ukulele Group will entertain at the Three Links Club on Saturday from 8pm. All are welcome.

lThe band, In No Particular Order, will return to Skipton Folk Unplugged on Monday.

It will be action at the Narrowboat pub, on Victoria Street, from 8.30pm.

SETTLE: Pendle Productions will stage a musical adaptation of Wind in the Willows at Victoria Hall on Sunday.

Kenneth Grahame’s wonderful tale of Toad, Ratty, Mole and Badger is brought to life through comedy, music, and storytelling.

The show is aimed at children aged between three and nine.

And, on Wednesday, the Ribblesdale Area Moving Picture Show will screen the Italian film, Il Ladro di Bambini (The Stolen Children), at the hall.

Winner of the Cannes Film Festival Grand Jury Prize (1992), the film begins in Milan, where Sicilian siblings Rosetta (Valentina Scalici) and Luciano (Giuseppe Leracitano) live with their destitute mother.

When their mother is arrested the children are taken to a foster home by Carabiniere Antonio Criaco (Enrico Lo Verso). Years of abuse mean that the children are unwilling to trust Antonio but circumstances force them together for longer than anticipated and their relationship grows.

lChris Rigby is exhibiting his landscape paintings at Linton Court Gallery.

Chris, who has exhibited previously in Settle, is showcasing landscape studies painted in both oil and watercolour at locations throughout the British Isles.

The exhibition runs until Saturday, August 30.

BOLTON ABBEY: The York Waits will perform at the next Bolton Abbey Priory concert.

The group was in continuous existence for at least 500 years until dissolution in 1836. Today the reformed band performs in 16th costume and plays a wide repertoire of period European music as well as popular dance and ballad tunes.

The concert will take place in the Priory Church tomorrow at 7.30pm and tickets are £10 from 01756 710586.

And, next Saturday, August 2, Neil Taylor, director of music at Sheffield Cathedral, will give an organ recital in the priory at 2pm. Entrance is free and there will be a retiring collection.

CLAPHAM: Community jazz band Dales Jam and samba band Batala Lancaster will entertain at Clapham Street Fair on Saturday.

GRASSINGTON: Grassington Players are currently on the road – but will end their tour with a performance in the village.

The touring thespians will perform some of Alan Bennett’s most popular Talking Heads monologues alongside some favourites from the Players’ own playwright Keith Bromley at the Octagon Theatre next Thursday, July 31, at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £5 on the door.

Tonight, the Players will be in action at Pateley Bridge Playhouse.

HELLIFIELD: A Hellifield’s Got Talent show will kickstart the village’s gala celebrations next Friday, August 1.

It will take place in the gala marquee and the general theme is songs from the musicals and movies.

TOSSIDE: A music festival will be held at Tosside this weekend to raise awareness and funds for testicular cancer.

Now in its second year, Testifest is being organised by father-of-two Neil Livesey, who had a brush with cancer four years ago.

More than a dozen acts will perform on the stage in the community hall tomorrow and Saturday.

Headline acts are tribute band Green Date and cover band Against The Order and other performers include The Boutiques, The Shade, The Jam Collection and Kelly Heroes.

Camping is available at nearby Hartley’s Farm.

Tickets cost £25 for both days (or £40 with camping) or £15 for day ticket.
