SKIPTON: Skipton, Craven Museum and Gallery is hosting its summer exhibition, Bikes, Legs, Action!

It is designed to highlight the ins and outs of cycling. Visitors can view the helmet of 2012 Tour de France winner Sir Bradley Wiggins, inspect Team Sky Rapha equipment and find out about tactics and nutrition of cyclists.

The museum is located in Skipton Town Hall and the exhibition runs until September 20.

lSkipton Folk Unplugged is planning a quiet August.

It has no booked artists for the month. Instead it will have singer nights in the Narrowboat pub every Monday from 8.30pm.

The next booked act is on September 8 when hissyfit entertains.

SETTLE: The Folly is staging an exhibition called War Beckons, which focuses on the early stages of the war and the effects it had on the district.

Visitors can learn about the recruitment of volunteers and the commandeering of local horses following the outbreak of war, as well some of the lesser-known stories, such as the Belgian refugees who were brought to Settle and the efforts of local people to raise money and support the troops.

It will give residents and visitors a greater understanding of the sacrifices that were made by the people of North Craven throughout the war.

And running alongside it is another exhibition, Journeys Through a Family Archive, which explores the story of the Riley family and their many involvements in the life of Settle and district over nearly 100 years.

Both exhibitions run until November 2.

lThe Lime Gallery is hosting an exhibition called Life and Landscape.

It features work by Hester Cox, Francesca Roberts, Frank Gordon, Pam Grimmond, Ross Brown, Jenny Devereux, Margaret Uttley and Andrea Hunter.

It will run until September 4.

lChris Rigby is exhibiting his landscape paintings at Linton Court Gallery.

Chris, who has exhibited previously in Settle, is showcasing landscape studies painted in both oil and watercolour at locations throughout the British Isles.

The exhibition runs until Saturday, August 30.

lSettle Music will hold one of its popular guitar sessions next Friday, August 8.

It will take place at Settle Primary School from 7pm to 9pm and the cost is £5.

All styles and abilities are welcome.

BOLTON ABBEY: Neil Taylor, director of music at Sheffield Cathedral, will give an organ recital in the priory on Saturday at 2pm. Entrance is free and there will be a retiring collection.

CARLETON: The successful Beacons Festival returns to Heslaker Farm next weekend.

This year’s event runs from next Thursday, August 7 to next Sunday, August 10 and headline acts include New York disco/astral funk duo Darkside, London trio Daughter and Jon Hopkins with his electronica tunes.

And there will also be a special performance by British Sea Power and Joan As Police Woman.

GISBURN FOREST: The fourth Cloudspotting Festival will be staged this weekend.

It has been organised by Boo Gilbraith, Matt Evans and Helen Ficorilli, whose ethos is to offer an event that is small and affordable, but has creative quality.

And this year’s festival – held at Stephen Park, near Slaidburn - promises to be the best yet, with capacity for 500 or so revellers and 40 music acts – including headliners Cate Le Bon, I Am Kloot’s John Bramwell, the Leisure Society and Melt Yourself Down.

It will start at 4pm tomorrow and will run through to Sunday night.

GRASSINGTON: Grassington Players are currently on the road – but will end their tour with a performance in the village.

The touring thespians will perform some of Alan Bennett’s most popular Talking Heads monologues alongside some favourites from the Players’ own playwright Keith Bromley at the Octagon Theatre tonight at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £5 on the door.

HELLIFIELD: A Hellifield’s Got Talent show will kickstart the village’s gala celebrations tomorrow.

It will take place in the gala marquee and the general theme is songs from the musicals and movies.

HORTON-IN-RIBBLESDALE: The Blackhorse Jazzmen will launch a festival weekend at St Oswald’s Church tomorrow.

They will perform in the church from 7.30pm and guests are invited to “dance in the aisle or just sit back and enjoy the fantastic music”.

Admission is £10 (children will be admitted free) and proceeds will be shared between the church and the village primary school.

INGLETON: St Mary’s Church will host a summer soiree afternoon tea on Saturday. It will be followed by soloist Laura Ayre, singing patriotic and traditional songs.

LONG PRESTON: As part of its work to commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of World War One, Long Preston Heritage Group has organised a free concert of songs and readings from the period.

It will take place in the village hall on Sunday, starting at 2pm. A commemorative programme will be provided and donations will go to the Help for Heroes charity.
