THIS year’s Art in the Pen has been hailed a success - despite a number of setbacks.

The exhibition - held at the weekend - saw the cow and sheep pens at Skipton Auction Mart transformed into mini art galleries, accommodating 125 local and national artists.

But the event was not without its dramas.

Andy Lynan, chairman of the board of trustees of the charity that runs the exhibition, said: “Art in the Pen suffered floods during the set up on Thursday due to the storm in the afternoon, but was ready for the artists arriving Friday morning.

“We also had a power cut first thing Saturday, which shut the cafe until we started cooking with gas - quite literally.”

An estimated 2,500 visitors attended over the weekend, buying artwork worth more than £30,000.

Next year, Art in the Pen will be celebrate its 10th anniversary.
