LONG Preston Heritage Group will present a Victorian magic lantern show on Saturday.

The magic lantern, made from brass and mahogany, was the predecessor of the slide projector and Kevin Varty will use original glass slides to illustrate different parts of the Great War.

He has a vast collection of slides from this period and will also bring along a number of exhibits.

"If you have never been to a magic lantern show before you are in for a very pleasant evening," said a group spokesman. "It’s not just a slide show. You will find it interesting, enjoyable and surprising."

The show will take place in a café-style layout in Long Preston Village Hall and there will be a licensed bar. Numbers will be limited to 50.

Doors open at 7pm and the show will start at 7.30pm.

Tickets, priced at £2.50 for adults and £1 for children under 11, can be obtained from Janet Benzie, 5 Back Green, Long Preston, or phone 01729 840770.
