QUEEN-ESQUE - a North West based Queen tribute band - will be heading to Settle on Saturday after its December date was called off due to the flooding.

The five-piece band will perform at Settle's Victoria Hall - where Brian May delivered a talk some years ago - and its aim is to reproduce the energy and spectacle of one of Queen's live show.

"We had to abort our last scheduled concert on December 4 due to Storm Desmond," said lead guitarist Steve Miller. "We had arrived at Settle from our base in Preston just minutes before the road closed behind us.

"When we got to the Victoria Hall and started to set up for the concert the venue manager, Ann Harding, told us that the only other road out of Settle was likely to close soon - so we had to make the tough decision to pack up and make a run for it otherwise we could be stranded. We only just made it home by the skin of our teeth as we had to negotiate our way through dozens of floods and stranded cars - quite exciting this rock and roll lifestyle!"

Steve is a former member of the Lancashire folk band The Houghton Weavers.

"It was while I was playing with the Weavers that I played at the Victoria Hall for the first time, and it quickly became a favourite venue for me so I am delighted to be able to play there again, although it might get just a touch louder this time."

Queen-Esque is fronted by Mark Fletcher, who has been a Freddie Mercury impersonator since the 90s, and other members are drummer Tony Hogg, bass player Simon Darwin and piano/keyboard player Dan Yates.

The gig starts at 8.30pm and tickets are available from settlevictoriahall.org.uk or call 01729 825718.
