THE new season at Skipton's Mart Theatre kicks off tomorrow.

Launching the programme will be Houghton Weavers, making a long-overdue return visit.

The group has been entertaining audiences for more than 40 years, has recorded over 30 albums and starred in several BBC radio and TV shows.

On Saturday, vocal impressionist Paul Tayler will perform his Ultimate Legends show, which will include tributes to Michael Jackson, Freddie Mercury, Michael Buble and Robin Williams.

Heritage Opera returns to Skipton next Saturday, April 9 - although it will be its first performance at The Mart. Soprano Sarah Helsby Hughes and tenor Nicholas Sales will lead a professional cast of ten singers in Madame Butterfly, a heartbreaking story of undying love and longing.

Friday, April 29, sees the return of Snake Davis, with SnakeStrings - a mix of funky, classical, soulful and world music, backed up by a string quartet.

The UK’s top deaf comic Steve Day will entertain on Saturday, April 30, and The Singing Farmers will return for one final show on Sunday, May 8.

The Big O & The Travelling Wilburys will present an evening of classic songs from the likes of George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan on Friday, May 13, while Desperado will recreate the music of The Eagles the following night.

And, on Saturday, May 28, the audience will be transported back 50 years with the Juke Box Sixties.

Comedian Gary Delaney will return on Thursday, June 2, and the locally-based Bad Wolf Theatre Company will stage the fourth instalment of their Ever After series on on Sunday, July 3.

The Mart Theatre will also play host to the long-awaited Food and Drink Festival over the weekend of July 30 and 31 when Yorkshire-born James Martin and The Hairy Bikers will give cookery demonstrations.

Finally, Art in the Pen will return for its 11th year over the weekend of August 13 and 14.
