AHEAD of Skipton Building Society Camerata’s busy summer schedule, with concerts at Bolton Abbey and Skipton Town Hall, the orchestra will entertain at Ilkley’s King’s Hall next Saturday, April 9.

Its Forgotten Muse programme will include Bach’s virtuosic Orchestral Suite No 2, which will showcase the skills of flautist Benjamin Griffiths.

He is a former student of the Royal Academy of Arts and Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

Ben will be joined by harpist Alex Rider for the Flute and Harp Concerto by Mozart and the concert will also feature Bartok’s Divertimento for Strings and Haydn’s Symphony No 59, Fire.

The four great works were only made possible thanks to wealthy benefactors and the role of patronage in the arts will be highlighted in a pre-concert talk by Dr Clive McClelland, of the University of Leeds. Patronage has often been the lifeblood of composers.

Skipton Camerata's musical director and conductor Ben Crick said: “Mozart's Flute and Harp concerto is a work I've wanted to conduct for a few years now as I think it's a work that marks a real change in Mozart's compositional style.

"That I'm performing it with Ben Griffiths, a musician who I have collaborated with many times before, just makes the performance all the more exciting. We have a chance here to create a very special evening of music making.”

The concert starts at 7.30pm and the pre-concert talk at 6.15pm. For tickets and information, visit skiptoncamerata.com or call 0333 666 3366.
