SUTTON'S Green Hut Theatre Company will stage the American musical The Pajama Game next week.

It is the story of love amongst the textile workers at a little factory in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Babe is the feisty boss of the Grievance Committee at the Sleep Tite pajama factory where workers are demanding a seven-and-a-half cent pay rise.

She is attracted to Sid, the new supervisor, whose task is to keep the machines working despite the girls’ increasing dissatisfaction with big-talking boss Mr Hasler.

But the course of true love doesn’t run smoothly as the workforce is heading for a strike.

Sid is played by Keighley man Andrew Steele who is returning to Sutton’s Green Hut Theatre Company after playing the lead in Elvis Presley musical All Shook Up several years ago.

Andy has spent the past couple of years working as a guide on the famous cobbles at Coronation Street The Tour in Manchester.

Babe is played by Emma-Jayne Byers, a regular leading lady in Green Hut musicals and pantomimes since starting with a group as a child when it was Sutton Amateurs.

Emma-Jayne’s mother Alison Waters, another long-time Sutton performer, plays boss’s secretary Gladys as well as serving as choreographer.

Alison’s mother Doreen Smith, yet another Sutton veteran and the group’s president, is co-producing The Pajama Game with group chairman Bryan Blackie.

Margaret Greenwood has returned to the Green Hut as musical director.

Gladys’s jealous boyfriend Heinzy is played by David Knights who has played many roles in Sutton and runs the Green Hut's junior drama club the Laffia.

Mr Hasler is played by John Cahill, a regular performer with both Sutton’s Green Hut Theatre Company and Skipton Amateurs.

The show will be presented at Sutton Village Hall from Wednesday to Saturday at 7.15pm. To book tickets, visit suttongreenhuttheatre.co.uk or call 01535 632289.
