KVU Singers are busy preparing for their spring concert.

The Sutton-based choir will perform Mendelssohn’s Elijah at Keighley Shared Church next Saturday, April 16, at 7pm.

The singers - conducted by musical director Frank Smith - will be joined by professional soloists, including soprano Jennie Marsden, mezzo soprano Hannah Mason, tenor Huw Rhys-Evans and baritone Terence Ayebare.

Born in Blackburn, Jennie gained her BMus (Hons) from the Royal College of Music and, after completing the first Genesis Sixteen course, a young artist training programme, she was invited to sing with The Sixteen. She has been engaged for oratorios in Norway, Blackburn Cathedral.

Hannah was born in Leeds and, while still at school, studied at the Royal Northern College of Music. Awarded a scholarship to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, she completed her training at English National Opera.

She is an experienced recitalist and concert performer as well as studying many roles as part of ENO's Opera Works.

Welsh-born Huw studied at the Royal Academy of Music and the National Opera Studio. He was awarded the Blue Riband Prize for the Singer of the Year at the Royal National Eisteddfod of Wales and on three occasions, the Tenor Solo Award. He has sung on many famous stages around the world, including Carnegie Hall.

Terence is from Uganda and turned to full-time vocal study after training as an electrical engineer. He studied singing at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow and the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. An experienced opera performer and oratorio soloist, he also performs song recitals with young aspiring pianists.

The concert will also showcase the talents of organist Christopher Enston, who read music at Sheffield University and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists, and treble Eleanor Tomlinson, who is just 17 and studying for her A-levels. She has accepted a place to study recorder at Birmingham Conservatoire from September.

Tickets cost £10 (£5 for children) and are available from choir members, on the door on the night or by phoning 01535 637425 or 01535 653917.
