A LOCAL performing arts group, which is due to premiere a new musical in Skipton this weekend, has been nominated for an award.

GTS Performing Arts, formerly known as Glusburn Theatre School, will present the first-ever UK performance of the new musical S'Cool at Skipton Town Hall on Saturday.

The performance coincides with GTS being nominated as the Best Community Group in the 2016 North Yorkshire County Council Community Awards, which recognise, celebrate and showcase the work carried out by volunteers and communities across the county.

The winners of the 2016 North Yorkshire County Council Community Awards will be announced at the Wider Partnership Conference on October 21.

GTS was launched in 2006 and met at Glusburn Institute before moving to Farnhill and Kildwick Institute in 2013 and to Skipton Town Hall in September 2014.

It is led by director Dev Swan, who described the group's latest musical.

"Quiet in the classroom and drama in the hallways pretty much sums up the feeling among most young people regarding their school day," said Dev. "In song, dialogue and movement S'Cool captures the highs and lows of a 'day in the life' of young people.

"Humorous, poignant and hopeful, S'Cool will touch audiences with its honesty as it charges though the real world of a school day.

"Extra dialogue was written by a senior GTS Performing Arts student Gabriel Williamson, who we will miss as he goes off to university after this show."

Doors open at 7pm and tickets cost £5 on the door, which includes a prize.
