THIRTEEN may be unlucky for some, but the Proms on the Farm team believe that the number will be lucky for them as they stage their 13th summer event.

This year's Proms on the Farm will take place at Sycamore Farm, Brunthwaite, Silsden - by kind permission of Jean Newns - next Saturday, July 23.

And organisers are hoping to beat last year's record turnout of more than 1,000 revellers, with the event being declared the best yet.

Now attention is focused on this year's concert and, as usual, proceeds will be split between two local charities, Sue Ryder Care's Manorlands Hospice and Silsden Methodist Church.

Whatever the weather, there will be a full line-up of live music, including The Big Bang, with music from the 60s onwards and the Sultans of Swing, with the sounds of bands such as Glenn Miller.

And The Ripon City Band, with conductor Martin Hall and contralto Sarah Halstead, will play favourites from the Last Night of the Proms.

The music commences at 7pm, but the field will open at 2pm to allow people to set up picnics. Tickets are £10 and can be purchased at Twiggs newsagents in Silsden or you can pay on the gate.

Awning spaces can be booked by phoning 01535 654509.

There are no trade stands so guests are invited to bring their own food and drink. There will also be a giant raffle and auction and there will be a prize for the best (fancy dress) gazebo.

Since starting 13 years ago, Proms of the Farm has raised more than £100,000 for its two charities.
