WELL known accordionist Tim Dalling is set to play at The Victoria Hall in Settle on Sunday.

Tim is one of the most dearly-loved characters on the UK folk circuit following an illustrious career wowing audiences as the kilted accordion-playing fall guy with the now defunct New Rope String Band.

It is said that Tim has created more merriment on the circuit than many of the country’s top comics.

Yet, behind the fun façade, is a great musician who has won praise from some of the biggest names on the scene.

Now that he has ventured out to make a bigger name for himself as a creative force, some may struggle to find a term that suitably describes the multi-talented performer and his many wondrous guises.

At this year’s Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow, he emerged as one of the most popular entertainers from the 2016 programme.

As a respected song-writer, reviewers have compared him to a cross between Ivor Cutler and Randy Newman.

Currently on tour with his highly-accomplished band – musicians who joined him in the studio to record his latest album – Tim and his sidekicks are one of the main acts at this year’s Under The Stars Festival at Cannon Hall Farm at Cawthorne, Barnsley, this weekend.

Ian Carr (guitar) and Neil Harland (double bass) are two of the most in-demand roots music musicians who have teamed up with many big names for major recording and outdoor music projects around the world.

When Tim released his latest CD, Eve’s Bonie Squad, it was well received by the critics and prompted Rock ‘n’ Reel magazine writer David Innes to declare: “He’s a genius.”

On tour here as a 4-piece, Tim’s daughter, Rhona is also in the line-up, having recently been praised for her own work, with fRoots magazine saying her playing (on fiddle, banjo and guitar) was “like a warm embrace.”

Scottish folk musician and songwriter Kris Drever described a recent show as “breathtaking”.

His Lau sidekick, Martin Green, said: “It was one of the best shows I've seen anywhere - ever!”

Tickets for Sunday's show, which starts at 7.30pm, cost £12 and are available by ringing 01729 825718 or visiting settlevictoriahall.org.uk
