ART in the Pen returns to Skipton Auction Mart for its 11th year next weekend.

Over 190 artists will transform the cattle pens into miniature art galleries from which they will exhibit and sell their work.

A key aspect of the selection process is ensuring a broad range of techniques and mediums are showcased, and as such work on display will include sculptures, photography, glasswork, textiles, recycled materials, watercolours, prints, woodwork, metal, jewellery, glass and ceramics.

The event began in 2005 and has grown considerably over the years in both artists exhibiting and visitors over the weekend.

It is an informal art event showcasing the work of both local and national artists.

"There are several changes to the running of the event this year," said Andy Lynan, artist director. "First and foremost we are not taking entry fees in the carpark as we have done for the last few years. There will still be staff in the car park directing visitors but we will be taking entry fees on the doors. The cost of entry has also gone up to £3. As the visitor numbers have gone up we need more staff to manage the event. We have increased the artist numbers to compensate for this."

Art in the Pen is a relaxed and informal event which caters for all types of visitors; from art students to art collectors, there is something for everyone.

Art in the Pen is open Saturday, August 13, and Sunday, August 14, from 10am to 4pm.

Entry costs £3, but under 16s go free.

There is free parking and an exhibitor brochure will be available.

The café on site will be serving drinks and hot and cold food.

Dogs on leads are welcome.
