A SPECIAL event to celebrate the work of Skipton author Geoffrey Horne - who as Gil North wrote about the fictional detective Caleb Cluff - is due to take place at Skipton Library.

Together with British Library Crime Classics series, the High Street library is celebrating the centenary of the author's birth.

As part of the celebrations, the library will be giving away free copies of his book, The Methods of Sergeant Cluff.

The books, which were hugely popular in the 1960s, have been donated by the British Library and will be given out on a first come, first served basis.

Austwick author, Julia Chapman, who writes under the name of Julia Stagg, will be hosting a discussing event at Skipton Library on Thursday, September 29.

"I'm honoured to be hosting this event and am excited about reacquainting Skipton with Sergeant Caleb Cluff and the works of Gil North," said Julia.

Tickets for the event, which will start at 7.30pm, are available in advance from the library. Spaces are limited, so early booking is advised.
