CONCERT and Cakes will present the first of two autumn concerts at All Saint's Church in Burton in Lonsdale next week.

The Marisca Trio will perform a programme entitled "From Mahler to McCartney" from 2.30pm to 4.30pm on Saturday, October 15.

The trio are a versatile ensemble who blend together the unconventional instrumentation of the harp, cello and saxophone, whilst performing pieces spread across a multitude of genres.

Originating from Wakefield, Worcestershire and Brighton, the Marisca Trio formed at the Royal Northern College of Music, where they are about to begin their third year of studies.

The trio's saxophonist is also member of the Abelia Saxophone Quartet which performed at All Saint's Church last year.

She enjoyed it so much, she asked whether she could bring her trio back to the church this year.

Since then, she has performed at the World Saxophone Congress in Strasbourg and in the young orchestra which opened the Last Night of the Proms concert at the Royal Albert Hall.

Concert and Cakes was conceived to honour the memory of the late Dr Christopher Rowland, who lived in Burton in Lonsdale and founded the chamber music department at the Royal Northern College of Music.

The second concert this autumn is on Saturday, November 19.
