A RECENT performance in Harrogate has highlighted a busy year for Skipton Ladies Choir.

Choir director Glyn Evans said the choir were successful in obtaining a grant from Skipton Building Society.

In early February, they were asked to sing at the Harrogate International Centre, where SBS showcased their involvement in the community during a conference.

The choir was pleased with the welcome and hospitality shown by the SBS staff and they declared the event a 'very successful venture'.

One choir member, Letty Keane, said: "As recipients of Skipton Building Society's Grass Roots Giving award, we were invited to showcase what we do by performing for the delegates at their annual conference in Harrogate."

She added that being asked to perform in Harrogate was one of the highlights in the history of Skipton Ladies Choir.

Skipton Ladies Choir, now in their 27th year, have been busier than usual this year (2016-2017).

Before Christmas they sang at three care homes in the Craven area.

After an intimate and varied Christmas concert in their new rehearsal and performance 'home' at Ermysted's Grammar School, they were invited to sing at the Soroptomists' concert in Skipton Castle.

Diana Chambers, president of Skipton Ladies Choir, had built a programme around the idea of Christmas in Europe, and she was particularly pleased that the choir sang in German, French and Latin to enhance this theme.

Choir director Glyn Evans said: "Before the concert began the keyboard was found to have an electrical fault, so the choir sang the entire programme and led the carols unaccompanied. We have been invited back!"

The ladies have also been invited by Skipton Building Society to sing again, this time at the SBS headquarters in Skipton at the end of March.

Before then they will be competing as usual in the Skipton Music Festival, which they describe as a 'wonderful week of music making', taking place in Skipton Town Hall from March 13 to 18.

The choir's summer concert will be held on Friday, July 7, in the Memorial Hall at Ermysted's Grammar School.
