SKIPTON Choral Society will present A Summer Celebration of Choral Music at 8pm tomorrow in the inspirational setting of Bolton Abbey.

The choice of music for the concert is bold, as favourite opera choruses resonate alongside the calm and gentle Requiem by Gabriel Fauré.

This gives the choir and soloists a chance to show their breadth of style, and offers the audience an unusual combination of well-loved works.

Guest soloists are Sarah Fox, soprano and a vice-president of the choir, and Adam Gouldin, baritone, a recent graduate of Leeds College of Music.

Born in Yorkshire, Sarah is one of the leading English sopranos of her generation. She was educated at Giggleswick School, London University and the Royal College of Music.

A former winner of the Kathleen Ferrier Award and the John Christie Award, she is equally at home in many musical genres including opera, folksong and musical theatre.

Adam, born in Nottingham, received tuition from Dr Joy Nichol from 2003 until 2010. He was a soloist with Nottinghamshire County Choir before studying at Leeds College of Music where he sang with many local choirs. He has also won two music scholarships.

Charlie Dobson, organist, will accompany the choir for Fauré’s Requiem, and a string ensemble will join the choir in the opera choruses.

Yonni Levy, interim musical director, will conduct the concert in his last performance with the choir, before he faces a new set of challenges in the UK and abroad.

After the concert, Sally Goodman is standing down as chairman, to be replaced by Tom Knapp; and Liz Graham will take over the role of membership secretary.

The choir wishes them all well in their new roles, and looks forward to announcing a new musical director soon.

Tickets cost £12 including refreshments and are available from choir members or by ringing Sheila Bloomfield on 01756 751879or 07933 925875 or emailing treasurer@skiptonchoralsociety.com
