QUANTUM Theatre is bringing its lively brand of comedy, music and magic to the classic Dickens' story Great Expectations, with a performance at Skipton Town Hall.

The performance takes place on Saturday at 2.30pm and will make use of the town hall’s new raked seating.

Packed full of action, intrigue and a vast array of Dickens’ most popular and infamous characters, this new version, adapted and directed by Michael Whitmore, delivers high drama, low comedy and grimy double-dealing in a show for all the family.

Danielle Daglan, programming and venue development manager at Craven District Council, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Quantum Theatre to Skipton – this promises to be a thrilling production of what is one of the greatest stories ever told.

“It’s perfect for fans of Dickens and it’s also a great way to introduce a younger audience to the power of his work.”

The classic story tells the tale of a terrifying encounter with an escaped convict on the wild Kent marshes; a summons to meet the bitter, decaying Miss Havisham and her beautiful, cold-hearted ward Estella; and the sudden generosity of a mysterious benefactor.

This series of events changes the orphaned Pip’s life forever, and he eagerly abandons his humble origins to begin a new life as a gentleman in London. But as Pip leaves his old world behind will he ever discover the real story behind his great expectations?

Tickets cost £7.50 each and are available from the Tourist Information Centre at Skipton Town Hall, which is open from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Saturday. Phone orders are also welcome – call 01756 792 809.
