SONGS from the Summer of Love proved to be a hit for The Cononley Singers as the ‘sold out’ signs went up for their summer concerts at Christ Church, Skipton, and Cononley Institute.

The choir and some of the audience got into the swing of the period by wearing 1960's costumes.

The audiences were wowed by Beatles songs Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, With A Little Help From My Friends and Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.

These favourites were backed up with Procol Harum’s hit A Whiter Shade of Pale, the Turtles' Happy Together and the Tremeloes' Silence is Golden.

Members of the choir also performed solos and group pieces which included San Francisco by Scott McKenzie, Mamas and Papas' Dedicated To The One I Love, Esther and Abi Ofarim’s Cinderella Rockefella and a popular Monkees medley which had the audiences joining in.

A spokesman for the Cononley Singers said: "The audiences felt they had been transported back to the summer of 1967 and for many it had been full of memories."

The Cononley Singers are next performing in a charity concert in aid of Yorkshire Cancer Research.

The concert will take place on Saturday, September 16, in the Victoria Hall, Keighley, beginning at 7.30pm.

The concert will also feature the City of Bradford Brass Band, and tickets are now available by calling 01535 637405.
