GLUSBURN Institute has secured the last date of a tour by renowned theatre company Red Ladder.

The community and arts centre will host Red Ladder’s joint production with West Yorkshire Playhouse of The Damned United.

The show, adapted from David Peace’s original novel by Anders Lustgarten, will visit Glusburn on March 2 and 3 next year.

The play is set in 1974 when Brian Clough, the enfant terrible of British football, tries to redeem his managerial career and reputation by winning the European Cup with his new team.

But Leeds United, previously led by Don Revie, is the team he openly despises and one where the players and fans hate him in return.

The co-production has been adapted from David Peace’s novel and aims to take its audience inside the tortured mind of a genius slamming up against his limits, and bring to life the beauty and brutality of football.

Glusburn Institute spokesman Jason Smith said: “We are delighted to have secured this piece fabulous piece by the West Yorkshire Playhouse and Red Ladder, two names in theatre industry synonymous with producing high-calibre pieces of theatre.

“This is just one part of our 2018 programme of concerts and theatre that we are putting together with more information coming soon.”

“Tickets are on sale now so get yours before it’s too late.”
