FROM cattle market to convent, The Mart Theatre in Skipton will be transformed to make way for Sister Act: The Musical.

Performances of Sister Act, which will be presented by Skipton Musical Theatre Company, will take place at 7.15pm on Thursday, October 26, to Saturday, October 28, with a matinee scheduled for 2.15pm on the Saturday.

The story follows aspiring night club singer Deloris Van Cartier, who witnesses her boyfriend Curtis kill one of his cronies.

Her only option is to seek sanctuary in a convent.

At first, Deloris feels as though it will be the worst thing in the world, chafing against the constraints of convent life and an immovable Mother Superior, but once she is introduced to the struggling choir, everything changes.

She finds that many of the nuns are not that different from her, and they are quite fun to be around.

They help give her a bigger purpose in her life, showing her a genuine love and affection that was missing prior to her arrival.

Sister Act is a joyous show that uses music to bring different communities and lifestyles together.

Based on the successful Whoopi Goldberg film, the show has been described as "A Heavenly Hit" and "A Divine Musical Comedy".

It features original music and songs which are sure to have members of the audience dancing in the aisles.

Tickets cost £14 for adults, £12 concessions and are available from The Mart Theatre box office on 01756 709666 or book online at themarttheatre.org.uk
