CONCERT and Cakes, who organise concerts at All Saints Church in Burton-in-Lonsdale, will welcome its first ever guitar trio.

Manchester-based The Zamorra Trio are set to perform at 2.30pm this Saturday in All Saints Church.

A spokesman for Concert and Cakes said: “We are very excited about the next Concert and Cakes concert, which will be the first by a guitar trio.”

The Zamorra Trio met whilst studying at the Royal Northern College of Music with Craig Ogden.

The spokesman added: “Their shared love of chamber and contemporary music led them to create a new and exciting trio with a focus on new music.

“Within their first year together the trio gave numerous performances at venues across the country including the Buxton Arts Pavilion and the Barnes Music Festival.

“The trio is committed to continuing the expansion of guitar trio repertoire with an innovative combination of commissioning contemporary composers, discovering little known contemporary gems and by arranging a variety of works, a tradition long part of the guitar’s history.

“Their musical programme will feature a mixture of classical pieces arranged for the trio, and classic guitar repertoire which sounds full and rich when played with three instruments.”

The hour long Concert and Cakes performance by the guitar trio will be followed by an invitation to meet the performers afterwards while enjoying home-made cakes, tea and coffee.

Admission is free and no ticket is required, but there will be a retiring collection.

The Zamorra Trio will be the final performance of Concert and Cakes’ 2017/18 season.

The season started on October with a performance by The Flux Trio. Louko String Quartet then performed in November and the first concert of 2018 was by the Chameleon Wind Quintet in February.
