SKIPTON Town Hall is screening the film The Theory of Everything as a celebration of the life of Professor Stephen Hawking, in partnership with the local Motor Neurone Disease Association group.

The screening of the film, starring Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne, will take place at 6.30pm tonight.

Professor Hawking died on March 14 at the age of 76, having been diagnosed at 21 with a type of motor neurone disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and given two years to live.

The British scientist was famed for his work with black holes and relativity, and wrote several popular science books including A Brief History of Time.

Danielle Daglan, programming and venue development manager for Craven District Council, said: “We are holding this event as a celebration of Professor Stephen Hawking’s amazing life, what he achieved and how many people he had an impact on.

“We saw an opportunity in screening this film to work in partnership with our local Motor Neurone Disease Association group, a national charity focused on improving access to care, research and campaigning.

“We hope to help them raise awareness and much-needed funding to fight this disease.”

The film, rated 12, is based on the memoir Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen, by his first wife, Jane Hawking.

Tickets, which cost £5 for adults and £3 for under 18s, are available online at cravendc.gov.uk/skipton-town-hall/concert-hall/ and from the town hall box office by calling 01756 792809.
