SETTLE is setting off into its second decade of plays re-enacting The Passion of Jesus Christ.

The Settle Passion Play, Journey to the Cross, will start at 10.30am tomorrow (Good Friday) in St John’s Methodist Church.

The Settle Passion Play, which is now in its 11th year, will include a new section with Barabbas reflecting, after the crucifixion.

Many of the key figures in the cast of over 30, plus crowd, are similar to last year, with 22-year-old Joe Dillon of Hellifield taking the lead role of Jesus.

It starts at 10.30am in the Methodist Church Hall, with Jesus asking his disciples to go and prepare a room ready for the Passover Meal.

The play continues from the upper room of the church to Millennium Garden (Gethsemane), to the Market Place (the trial scene) and then to the Settle Parish Church churchyard for the crucifixion scene, with reflections by various characters.

Hot cross buns and tea will be available in the church afterwards.

Wardrobe mistress and secretary of Churches Together, Sally Waterson, said: “Come and follow the action though Settle - act the part of the crowd, with children’s costumes available - then hear what Barabbas makes of it all.

“If you have not had chance to watch or take part in this colourful and meaningful event make sure you come to Settle on Friday morning.”

There will also be an Easter early morning service taking place in Settle.

Churches Together in Settle is inviting everyone to the 6.30am open-air service this Sunday.

The service will be held in Millennium Garden near Booths car park.

This will be followed by breakfast in the Friends Meeting House.
