THE Austwick Community Players are once again preparing to stage Golden Years, a celebration of 50 years of entertainment at the annual over 65s supper.

Following the cancellation of the supper and show in early March due to the ‘Beast from the East’, this year’s production, Golden Years, has been re-scheduled to Friday and Saturday at Austwick Parish Hall.

The Players will take a fun look back to the start of this annual tradition which originally started with a supper for the over 60s.

Christine Hooley, chairman of Austwick Community Players, said: “The introduction in 1968 of entertainment, following the supper, will be celebrated in time-honoured style. The journey will also take us through the intervening years with a hilarious and nostalgic look at popular culture and events from the decades.”

“As always, The Players have been beavering away writing and rehearsing to present one of the area’s most anticipated annual performances. This year’s show is for all the family with sketches, songs and enormous fun.

“In a tradition now going back 50 years, the production is written and performed by people from Lawkland and Austwick parishes.”

Two public performances are put on in aid of the parishes’ annual evening for residents aged over 65, and they draw in an audience from North Craven area and beyond.

Local residents who normally receive an invitation to the supper will now receive another invitation which will give them free admission to the show, on either night.

These dates will also be open to the public. All admissions will be on a first come first served basis.

Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 7.30pm.

Tickets purchased for previous show dates in March will still be valid. Tickets including refreshments cost £6 for adults and £2.50 for children and are available on the door only.
