AN art exhibition – Humans of the Dales – commissioned by Grassington Festival, is now on display in Skipton Town Hall.

The exhibition, by artists Carine Brosse and Sam Carlin, features portraits and interviews collected in the Yorkshire Dales.

An investigation through camera lens and conversation with 20 participants from the Dales, this audio-visual collection gives a true-to-life insight into the lives of real local people and celebrates the diverse stories in the area.

Sam said: “I’m thrilled and privileged to be part of this fantastic project where Carine and I were let in to people’s lives to capture their stories and take their portrait.

“People’s lives are captured every day on social media, but this project gives a snapshot of some of the people living within the Yorkshire Dales today and how the course of their lives brought them to this scenic part of the UK.

“Being able to exhibit in my home town of Skipton is especially exciting,” added Sam.

Humans of the Dales debuted last summer for Grassington Festival 2017, and its return is particularly serendipitous now for the 2018 festival.

The central concept this year is A Sense of Belonging, emphasising the importance of place and community.

Not only is festival set against the backdrop of the Dales landscape, there is a vast array of events on offer, details of which can be seen in the guide or online at grassington-festival.org.uk

Festival director Kate Beard said: “It’s great to be partnering with Skipton Town Hall and seeing something of the festival beyond the usual festival fortnight.

“We’d also like to say thank you to all the participants, without whom this exhibition would not have been possible.”

Humans of the Dales will run until Monday, May 28, at Craven Exhibition Gallery in Skipton Town Hall, and is open every day except Sundays from 10am to 4pm. Entry is free.
