A REVAMPED version of John Godber’s classic Teechers will be performed at 7.30pm this Saturday at St Andrew’s Church Hall in Skipton.

Award-winning, Yorkshire-based arts Company Codswallop CIC have adapted the 30-year-old play to fit with a village hall format and this weekend’s performance marks the end of a ten-month tour which has taken place across Yorkshire.

Written in 1984, Godber’s iconic piece of work reflected the political unrest of the time and the artistic director behind the new production believes that many of the themes still resonate with audiences now.

Codswallop founder Jacob Phillips said: “Although it was written in 1984, against the backdrop of our current political situation it feels as if it could’ve been written yesterday and we feel the messages are as important now as they were in the eighties. We hope we have achieved our vision of bringing the play bang up to date and given it a new contemporary feel.”

Phillips, who stars alongside up and coming actors Chloe Lawson and Stephen Vaughan, said: “We try to prepare budding actors for a professional life in the theatre industry. Chloe and Stephen are incredibly talented. We have performed together for almost a year and the reaction has been fantastic.”
