SKIPTON Town Hall will celebrate World Lindy-Hop Day on Saturday, May 26.

A day filled with fun and energetic vintage dance from the 1930s and 40s is promised, with free taster classes, demonstrations and social dance time during the day around Skipton.

This will be followed by a ticketed night out at Skipton Town Hall, when popular local swing DJs Jitterbug James and Tacky Annie will play a mix of swing time favourites.

Lindy-Hop has seen many revivals over the years but it is now bigger than ever, thanks to American dancer, instructor and choreographer Frankie Manning. He died in 2009 and World Lindy-Hop Day is held in his memory, on his birthday each year.

The evening event begins at 7pm with a beginners and improvers class for anyone who cannot make the daytime sessions or wants to learn more. Then there will be a social dance from 7.45pm onwards, including demonstrations from the Swing Cats.

Tickets, which cost £6 for adults and £3 for students and under 21s, are available at cravendc.gov.uk/skipton-town-hall or call 01756 792809.
