SETTLE is not short of local poets but Settle Sessions will be presenting two poets from further afield on Friday, June 8.

Chrissie Gittins and Mary Jane Holmes will read from their books during the session, which starts at 7.30pm in The Folly. Chrissie will be reading from Armature and I’ll Dress One Night as You, as well as her latest pamphlet collection Professor Heger’s Daughter.

As poet Ian Macmillan says: “Chrissie knows what words can do; she makes them dance, sing, sit still for a moment and then leap across the page with joy.”

Chrissie will also read from her books at a poetry event for children 7 to 11 year old at Settle Community Library on Saturday, June 9, from 12.30. She will also lead a poetry workshop in the library.

Mary Jane Holmes, winner of many awards including the Bridport Poetry Prize in 2017, is also appearing at the Folly with Chrissie. She divides her time between UK, Ireland, Spain and the Tex Mex border of the USA. She is launching her book, Heliotrope with Matches and Magnifying Glass.

In addition to poems, the poets will read from their choices in the Read 2 section.

Tickets cost £6 and are available from The Folly or The Corner - Arts and Books, or on the door.
