Band will play station to station for festival-goers

Grassington Festival has nearly reached its half-way mark.

The fortnight-long music and arts extravaganza started on Friday and runs until next Saturday, June 30.

It offers a mix of music, comedy, theatre, poetry, dance, talks and visual arts at various venues across Upper Wharfedale.

The festival is keen to meet the highest standards of sustainability and, to get across its message, it is holding a public transport day on Saturday.

Performers Hope and Social and The Story Peddler will meet festival-goers at Leeds Railway Station and perform for them as they make their way to Grassington for a packed day of free music, theatre, dance and arts events.

The train will depart from Leeds at 10am, with festival-goers transferring to a bus in Skipton at 10.30am.

Once in Grassington, visitors will be able to enjoy a debut performance of extreme sports show Freerunning@, music from samba band Loud Minority and an energetic dance routine from Taciturn.

There is even a chance to get swallowed by a giant whale or take part in the Time Traveller’s Tea Party!

The headline Festival in the Field events start on Tuesday and this year’s performers include trumpeter and human rights campaigner Hugh Masekela, The Unthanks with Brighouse and Rastrick Band, comedian and actor Alan Davies, The Animals and Friends with the Move, and Billy Ocean.
