A LANCASTER theatre's outdoor production of The Hobbit proved to be the hottest ticket in town.

The Dukes outdoor walkabout version of The Hobbit completely sold out a fortnight before its run ends Saturday.

J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantastical adventure has been entertaining audiences in Williamson Park since it opened on July 5 and is proving one of the Lancaster theatre’s most successful outdoor productions.

By the time The Hobbit closes on Saturday, it will have been seen by 17,200 people, making it the hottest ticket in town this summer.

The Dukes artistic director, Joe Sumsion, said: “We are delighted at the response to our version of The Hobbit. It’s really caught the imagination and has received great reviews and audience feedback with some people travelling from as far as Singapore to see it.”
