Art and about
3:23pm Friday 10th June 2011 in Leisure
Throughout the festival
Blooming Marvellous Exhibition
Artists, printers, illustrators and makers of contemporary craft from all over the country exhibit high quality work relating to botanicals and blooms.
Grassington Town Hall, 11am to 4pm (Exhibition closed on Tuesday, June 21, due to performances).
The Old Curiosity Shed
Planted in the centre of the village is The Old Curiosity Shed. Where did it come from? Why is it there? What does it do? Who knows what will be happening? Check it out every day – because you just never know what it might do next!
Wheelbarrow Art Trail
Unusual looking wheelbarrows will be sprouting up around the village as the public are invited to create their own wheelbarrow of wonder as a part of an art trail. Prizes go to the most inventive and outrageous.
The submissions will be judged by award winning garden designer Chris Beardshaw. A trail guide is available from Grassington Festival Box Office.
House of Slugs and Snails
No 22 Main Street will be the venue of a new reserve for unwanted garden beasts and extraordinary munchers. This is a unique opportunity to see these larger than life characters and all the beasties will be put up for adoption at the end of the festival!
Saturday, June 18
Fascinator Hat Workshop
Have you got an old hat lurking in the back of your cupboard? Don’t take it to the charity shop. Wear it to Grassington Day at the Races on Sunday, June 19! Bring it along to this fabulous afternoon workshop where Sue Carter will teach you how to transform your hat into a work of art. Materials will be provided. Grassington Town Hall, 1pm to 4pm.
Saturday, June 25
Down At The Bottom Of The Garden
Get up to some garden related skulduggery at this workshop. Activities include gnome painting, miniature garden making and fairy wing creating. This is a drop in workshop and is open to all ages. Children must be accompanied. Grassington Village Square (or town hall if wet), noon to 4pm.
Wednesday, June 29

Learn the fabulous art of willow weaving with Cumbrian willow master Phil Bradley. As an organic grower and creator of all things willow, Phil will teach you a variety of weaving, forming and sculpting techniques throughout the day. This is a full day workshop, which promises to be as inspirational as it is relaxing. Grassington Town Hall, 10am to 4pm.
